By reporting the attack to law enforcement, she triggered a process that often ends in disappointment for survivors in Allegheny County and elsewhere — but also took a step toward holding the system accountable to survivors assaulted by former intimate partners.

Alexandra Ross is an editorial intern and a recent graduate of the University of Pittsburgh, where she studied English writing, Spanish and education. A lifelong lover of learning and writing, Alexandra grew up in the suburbs of Philadelphia before moving across the state to attend Pitt. There, she worked at The Pitt News for two years and served as an assistant news editor in her last semester. She has also interned for Pittsburgh Magazine and freelanced with PublicSource.
