Veonna King

Veonna is an editorial intern for PublicSource. She attends the California University of Pennsylvania, pursuing a major in English with a concentration in journalism. There, she serves as a staff writer for the school newspaper, Cal Times, and is vice president for a chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists. Veonna also DJs for the school’s radio station.

For students with autism, remote learning is particularly challenging. Here’s how children and parents are adjusting.

As plans for the fall are being designed by school districts in the Pittsburgh region, PublicSource spoke with parents and care providers about the struggles and unforeseen advantages of remote learning for kids on the autism spectrum.

I’m learning to put my future first. No one else will.

Being 17 and constantly making work a priority is tiresome. I’m learning that compromise is the key. I say this because I have found that most employers don’t care if you're sick, depressed or miss your family and friends.
