She likes to asks questions. That’s what Pittsburgh Magazine said about Public Source editor-in-chief and co-executive director Halle Stockton when she was honored on Friday night as one of Pittsburgh Magazine’s “40 Under 40” for 2025.

At Pittsburgh’s Public Source, we like that. Asking questions — and thinking about what questions to ask next — is the core of our work in accountability journalism and telling Western Pennsylvania’s stories.

We already knew that Halle, a longtime Public Source reporter and managing editor until she and Jennie Ewing Liska became co-executive directors in 2023, was one of a kind. But we are gratified to see her recognized and counted among the most energetic and influential forces of good in our community.

In the meantime, Halle and the rest of the Public Source staff will keep doing what they do best: asking questions.

We’re Pittsburgh’s Public Source. Since 2011, we’ve taken pride in serving our community by delivering accurate, timely, and impactful journalism — without paywalls. We believe that everyone deserves access to information about local decisions and events that affect them.

But it takes a lot of resources to produce this reporting, from compensating our staff, to the technology that brings it to you, to fact-checking every line, and much more. Reader support is crucial to our ability to keep doing this work.
