❤️ Best $15ish meal(s): Homemade buttermilk biscuit sandwiches like country ham, fried chicken or a build-your-own creation for $7-$9. Or, breakfast plates like biscuit and sausage gravy or a vegan grit bowl around $10. Add on sides like fried potatoes or braised greens for $4.

Why go?

Wise County Biscuits & Cafe dishes up food that tastes just like an Appalachian grandma’s home cooking. If you leave hungry, it’s your own fault! Their homemade buttermilk biscuits are the star of the show, whether served as a sandwich with fried chicken or doused in savory sausage gravy. Everything on the menu is under $15, so it’s easy to eat well on a budget. Have a seat near the display of vintage copper cake pans and patchwork tapestry, or get cozy on the floral-upholstered couch, just like at grandma’s house.
What to order
I like to get the $9 Your Way Sandwich with an egg, homemade mushroom and oat patty, and chow chow (a tangy mixed vegetable relish). Add a side of $4 fried potatoes; you won’t regret it.

Good to know before you go
- This is a counter-service restaurant with around 50 seats inside and outside.
- It gets super busy on the weekends. To avoid the rush, get a special breakfast or lunch on a weekday.
- Plan to mosey around the picturesque neighborhood after your meal. City Books, Pittsburgh’s oldest used book store, is right across the street, and nearby Beech Avenue features stunning Victorian-style rowhouses.
