❤️ Best $15ish meal(s): Chicken Caesar wrap, Southern pimento cheese BLT and Texas Two Step breakfast tacos.
Why go?

Happenstance Cafe has a taproom, a tucked-away garden patio and an upstairs library, plus a menu that stretches from breakfast tacos and lattes in the morning to sandwiches, salads, beer and wine later in the day.
The food is comforting and unfussy, with a little Texas influence mixed into its Pittsburgh neighborhood-cafe sensibility. Breakfast starts with tacos and hash browns; after 11 a.m., the menu moves into fried green tomatoes, burgers, wraps and sandwiches. Happenstance also rotates local art and spotlights a different Pittsburgh nonprofit each month.

What to order
My $15ish pick lands exactly on the mark: the $15 Chicken Caesar Wrap, essentially a portable chicken Caesar salad rolled up with grilled chicken, shaved Parmesan, crisp romaine and Caesar dressing. It comes with kettle chips and a Pittsburgh pickle spear.
There are plenty of other delicious options, too. The $14.50 Southern Pimento Cheese BLT piles fried green tomatoes, bacon, pimento cheese and microgreens onto sourdough, while the $13.50 Mama’s Buttermilk Chicken Salad comes with pecans and celery on a buttered croissant.

Come earlier and $12 gets you the Texas Two Step: two flour-tortilla breakfast tacos stuffed with bacon, scrambled eggs, hash browns and cheddar, with avocado crema and Cajun aioli.
Good to know before you go
Happenstance is a good spot to work from, with a garden patio out back and more seating upstairs, including a library.
The drinks are worth checking before you leave, too. Seasonal specials rotate regularly and have included everything from espresso tonics to a cornbread latte with sweet-corn cold foam and maple. And if you want something stronger, there’s beer and wine in the taproom.
