Our newsroom works hard to provide the information people in our region need, when they need it, without paywalls. We’re proud to serve our neighbors and community this way. Being an independent, nonprofit newsroom means that no one owns us or tells us what to publish — and it also means that we count on community support to make our work possible.

We’re excited to offer a special opportunity to amplify your impact through NewsMatch, a collaborative fundraising initiative supporting independent journalism like ours.

Here’s how it works:

Through Dec. 31, the Wyncote Foundation, the Andrew Carnegie Foundation and our generous local match pool supporters will match your new monthly donation 12 times or double your one-time gift. With your support, we can earn up to $80,000 in match funds!

What does your support help us do?

This year our small-but-unstoppable staff won some of the biggest awards in Pennsylvania journalism, plus national honors for our innovative zines. Far from resting on those laurels, we’ve been reporting from data center hotspots, probing policy toward youth, chronicling threats to public health, exposing housing conflicts and working our first geographic beat, in Pittsburgh’s southern suburbs.

This work is meaningful — but it takes considerable resources to produce. That’s why raising these funds is crucial to set our newsroom up to report in 2027. If you’ve found value in Public Source, will you give today to double the impact of your donation?

Help us continue telling stories like this one.

We’re Pittsburgh’s Public Source, an independent, nonprofit newsroom. That means we rely on donations from readers like you to help us report accurate, timely and impactful stories for the Pittsburgh region — available to everyone without paywalls.

Everyone deserves access to credible information to understand and help shape the region they call home, which is why we work hard everyday to deliver fact-checked stories on education, environment, health, local government and more.

We've seen our journalism prompt widespread change in the Pittsburgh region — but none of it would be possible without the support of our community. If you found this story valuable, consider "paying it forward" by making a gift today.
