ICE, immigration and local response
Reporting on the reach and impact of immigration enforcement in Pittsburgh and across Southwestern Pennsylvania.
The federal immigration crackdown during President Donald Trump’s second administration has created opportunities and controversies for counties and local governments.
Allegheny County opted in March to bar its employees from cooperating with U.S. Immigrations and Customs Enforcement. A handful of municipalities within the county have passed similar legislation, while two have entered into agreements to work with ICE under its 287(g) program.
Allegheny County is surrounded by counties in which law enforcement agencies have entered into agreements to work with ICE under its 287(g) program. The program can bring substantial financial benefits.
These maps are based on publicly available information but may not reflect all municipal decisions on this subject. If your municipality or county has an agreement with ICE or legislation restricting interactions with immigration enforcement that is not reflected here, please email jamie@publicsource.org.
